Being a digital consumer myself, I use the Internet and Social Media much more than in the past and similarly everyone around me. According to Statista, the number of internet users globally will grow to 5.3 billion by 2023, citing a large majority. Something to ponder about here is whether businesses know what we want to see in them? Convenience? Security? Social media engagement? My answer is all of the above! I mean who would not want to see as much benefits as possible? According to a survey by Twitter, 49% of consumers rely on influencers for product recommendations and that includes me.

Engaging Lebron James as their ambassador on social media platforms has brought them great attention as he is a highly recognized athlete. By understanding the power of social media and influencer marketing, Nike has built a strong brand presence and successfully appealed to digital consumers.

Online Communities 

Digital consumers are progressively looking for associations with similar people in online communities and the power of these communities cannot be neglected. According to a survey conducted by GlobalWebIndex found that 93% of internet users have at least one social media account and 69% of consumers feeling a stronger connection to businesses that have active online communities.

Have you ever heard of Reddit? It is a platform which allows members to submit content, engage in discussions, and vote on posts and comments, becoming one of the most popular and influential online communities, covering a vast range of topics and interests. Popular businesses such as Airbnb has also built a thriving online community where hosts and guests can connect, share experiences, and seek advice to encourage community engagements.
